We are honored that Novus Architects has been selected by the City of Asheville to lead design services for the restoration of 8 River Arts Place, a historic building in the River Arts District that was severely impacted by Hurricane Helene.
Novus maintains an established office in the Asheville community, where in recent years we have built a strong portfolio of FEMA-funded disaster recovery and historic restoration projects. Our local Asheville team—supported by trusted consultants Stewart, TLC Engineering Solutions, and the National Emergency Planning and Training Association—brings deep expertise in FEMA processes, disaster relief planning, and the careful stewardship required to protect historic structures while strengthening their resilience.
The project will focus on restoring the building’s functionality while incorporating flood hazard mitigation strategies to support long-term resilience and protect this important community asset.
This work represents more than a design contract; it is an opportunity to contribute to Asheville’s ongoing healing and recovery. We are proud to support the City of Asheville in restoring this vital community resource and helping ensure its durability against future flooding events.
Novus Architects was founded in 1992 by one architect working for one client. It didn’t take long to grow as the demand also grew for our creative process and commitment to exceptional customer service. Today, with offices in Atlanta, Asheville, Charleston, Charlotte, Winston Salem, Rocky Mount, and St. Thomas USVI, Novus has a mission to create highly functional, beautiful spaces that are more than brick and mortar, or fixtures and furniture – spaces that foster human interaction, discovery and deep connection.
