About the Job: Senior Interior Designer

The Senior Interior Designer may be involved a variety of small, medium, or large projects with Springline Architects (a Novus Architects company) located in the U.S. Virgin Islands.  

The Senior Interior Designer role encompasses a blend of creativity and leadership within the realm of interior design, steering projects from conception through to completion. This position involves a deep understanding of both aesthetic and functional aspects of interior spaces, ensuring designs meet client specifications, budget constraints, and project timelines. With a focus on innovation and practicality, the Senior Interior Designer collaborates closely with clients, architects, and contractors, guiding a team of designers to translate visions into tangible environments. This role not only demands a refined design sensibility but also strong project management skills to oversee the execution of design principles, maintaining the highest standards of quality and efficiency throughout the process.

Requirements:

  • Eight or more years of experience in all phases of interior design. Certification preferred but not required.  Bachelor’s degree in interior design, or related field. 
  • Located in southeastern region of the United States or the US Virgin Islands. Residency in or near one of Novus’ office locations is preferred, but not required.
  • If residency is not in or near a Novus office location, ability to travel to a Novus office when project or organization requires (on average quarterly basis).
  • Strong Revit design and production skills and knowledge of processes is required.  
  • Experience on K-12 education projects is a plus, but not required.
  • Experience on FEMA-funded projects is a plus, but not required.
  • Experience in other federal government design project types and/or processes is a plus.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities, and attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work as a team member to achieve high output levels.
  • Self-directed; high energy level; high degree of personal initiative.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Manage interior design projects of all sizes and levels of complexity and provide project team leadership. 
  • Participate in the design control of projects in the design development, construction document, and supervision phases. 
  • Develop initial design concepts that are functional, aesthetically pleasing, and within budget for clients, including space planning and color schemes.
  • Create detailed drawings and 3D models using Revit software to visualize design plans.
  • Select and specify furnishings, fixtures, equipment, and materials, coordinating with vendors and suppliers for procurement.
  • Oversee project timelines and coordinate with contractors, architects, and other professionals to ensure design elements are executed accurately and on schedule.
  • Conduct site visits to monitor the progress of projects, ensuring that construction and installation align with design specifications.
  • Prepare and manage budgets for interior design projects, including estimates for design hours, furnishings, and materials.
  • Provide expert guidance on building codes, regulations, and accessibility standards to ensure compliance in design projects.
  • Mentor junior designers, offering guidance on design techniques, project management, and client relations to foster their professional growth.
