Job Summary:

The Architect Level II/Level III will serve on ground-up projects of varying size and complexity with multiple studios. Heavy focus on exterior architecture and core and shell design, but role requires competence in all conventional aspects of architecture. In this role, they will be responsible for specific technical design aspects of assigned projects, including investigation, evaluation, and recommendation of design solutions that best meet the client’s needs.

The Architect Level II / Level III is fully competent in all conventional aspects of architecture. They independently perform a variety of assignments requiring skills in all conventional aspects of architectural designs for projects of moderate size and complexity.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 8 years of architectural experience preferred. Building core and shell experience, including building envelope detailing, civil and structural design coordination.
  • Experience with healthcare projects is a plus, but not required.
  • Experience on FEMA-funded projects is a plus, but not required.
  • Experience in other federal government design project types and/or processes is a plus, but not required. 
  • Bachelor's Degree or Master's Degree in Architecture from a NAAB-accredited university.
  • Licensed Architect, or in the process of obtaining architectural licensure.
  • Experience with Revit required. BIM 360 knowledge a plus.
  • Experience with graphics software such as SketchUp, Lumion, or Enscape is an advantage.
  • Thorough understanding of relevant codes such as IBC, state building codes, FGI Guidelines, NFPA, IBC, ANSI 117.1, BOMA.
  • Experience in the technical production of projects from planning and conceptual design through construction administration.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities, and attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work as a team member to achieve high output levels.
  • Self-directed; high energy level; high degree of personal initiative.
  • Located in southeastern region of the United States or the US Virgin Islands. Residency in or near one of Novus’ office locations is preferred, but not required.
  • If residency is not in or near a Novus office location, ability to travel to a Novus office when project or organization requires (on average quarterly basis).

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provides professional architectural consultation in the planning, design, consultant coordination, construction documentation, and construction administration of projects.
  • Independently applies architectural concepts and designs.
  • Carries out complex assignments requiring the development of new or improved techniques and procedures. 
  • May provide technical guidance to less experienced architects/architectural staff depending on experience level.
  • Serves as a Subject Matter Expert on specialized systems.
  • Develops and represents lead technical viewpoint on projects, in particular for building core & shell/building enclosure. Coordinates with Project Manager / Project Principal on appropriate solutions and product strategies.
  • Complies with well-established standard processes to drive effective project execution.
  • Effectively completes and assesses their own work in a self-directed manner; understands and implements technical direction provided by Project Manager / Project Principal; able to identify technical questions; and resolves technical questions in a self-directed manner in order to maintain productivity.
  • Performs on-site existing conditions documentation and analyses.
  • Generally executes all aspects of drawing production under the direction and supervision of the Project Manager / Project Principal.
  • Can be relied upon to present directly to the client on technical and design solutions.
